Dear Friends, It has been quite some time since updating our blog and we wanted to share what has been happening, both personally and in Haiti. Those that shop in our store may know that I (Darlene) was the primary caregiver for my mother over the past two years. Mom passed away in October, 2018, and we are heartbroken. My dad died many years ago, so this was especially painful since we have a very small family. Since the start of the new year, I have been able to assemble a small team to go to Haiti and to begin solar work on our medical building in Source a Philippe. We will be working in the clinic seeing patients, working with the sewing business--developing the schedule to fit our business plan, doing a Vacation Bible School with the kids, meeting with the leadership team in SAP and working with the teachers in the school. We will also be doing health education and meeting with leaders there. Our hope on this mission is to begin working intently with the youth in the school, finding their interests and helping them explore potential job/career choices. We hope to involve them in the many aspects of our team, so essentially, those that might be interested in becoming doctors or nurses will help in the clinic weighing patients and taking heights. Those interested in becoming teachers we hope to involve in helping with VBS, etc. We have asked the principal and the teachers to think about what students, based on interest and merit, would be recommended to work with us. We are excited to see how this works. Our team dates are Feb. 26th thru March 7th from Grace United Methodist Church here in Manassas, where Darlene is on the staff as Director of Community Connection and will lead this team. Please help us by beginning to pray now for our trip--good health, weather, safe travels, etc. We'll continue to keep you posted.
